It’s been a long time since I started this blog. I’ve shared how I designed my bookshelves and even built the shelves at home. But the time has come to replace those bulky old shelves with sleek new ones, and that’s where this post comes in. In this article, I will show you how to build bookcases for your own home. All you need is a few basic tools and materials, and you can have your own shelves in no time.

Inspired by the bookshelf photo that appears in my profile pic above, I decided to go ahead and build a bookshelf. I had a few things in mind, but the whole thing started from a small bare-bones inspiration: an image from Apartment Therapy in their fabulous “10 Bookcases That Inspire You” article. It was simple, and I loved the way it incorporated so many different materials and colour palettes. So, I did a little research and decided to use reclaimed wood and old books to make the shelves.

What Kind of Wood Should I Use to Make a Bookshelf?

There are a lot of things to consider when you start building your own bookshelf. You need to consider the size of your home, how much space you have, how neat you want your books to be, where you will be putting your books (in a home office, for example), and more. That’s why I wanted to tell you what I would choose and why it’s a good choice.
